DEFINITIONS

Employer

An employer is a person who employs one or more workers. (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1)

Prime contractor

Every work site where there are two or more employers must have a prime contractor. The prime contractor is the person who has agreed with the owner of the work site to be the prime contractor, or the owner of the work site. (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 3)

DIVISION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The prime contractor must ensure that the act and the regulations are complied with. This means that the prime contractor must ensure that all workers, including contractors, comply with the act and regulations. (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 3)
