DEFINITIONS

Multiple-employer workplace

A multiple-employer workplace is a workplace where workers of two or more employers are working at the same time.

 

Prime contractor

A prime contractor is the employer at a multiple-employer workplace who enters into a written agreement to be the prime contractor. If there is no written agreement, the owner of the workplace is designated as the prime contractor.

 

DIVISION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The prime contractor must ensure that the heath and safety activities of all employees, workers and supervisors at a multiple-employer workplace are coordinated. Further, the prime contractor must do everything reasonable to ensure that employees, workers and supervisors comply with all regulations pertaining to health and safety.

 

Each employer at a multiple-employer workplace must supply to the prime contractor the name of the person who has been designated to supervise the employer’s workers.
