Any worker who performs electrical work must have a valid license or permit authorizing him/her to do the work, OR must perform the work as an apprentice or helper of, and under the direct personal supervision of, and in the presence of, a person who holds a license authorizing him/her to do that work and who is continuously employed on the same contract or job.
In order to be licensed, a person must pass an examination and fulfill all the requirements set out in the regulations. (Electricians’ License Act and Regulations, 4)
Only equipment that has been approved by the Canadian Standards Association or other approved agency AND that bears the appropriate seal, stamp or mark of approval may be used. (Electricians’ License Act and Regulations, 18)
Where
machinery or equipment is shut down or stopped for maintenance or repair, no
work shall be carried out until effective means have been taken to immobilize
or lock out the controls that could put the machinery or equipment into motion,
and where locked out, the key shall be in the possession of the last worker
involved in or performing maintenance or repair work thereon to leave the area
of danger.
