accident to investigate
Accidents of a serious nature and that result in a fatality must be investigated for probable cause. (Workplace Safety Regulation 108/88R, 8)
The employer must notify the minister immediately of an accident of a serious nature or that results in a fatality. The accident scene must not be disturbed for 24 hours after the notification of the accident has been made. If no response has been received after 24 hours, the scene may be reopened. (Workplace Safety Regulation 108/88R, 8)
Signs must be posted indicating the location of first aid services. (First Aid Regulation 140/98, 4)
Any
injury or illness must be recorded in an approved form. (First Aid Regulation 140/98, 5)
Where
there are fewer than 25 workers, one first aid kit must be provided. Where
there are 25 to 50 workers, 2 first aid kits must be provided. Where there are
51 to 75 workers, 3 first aid kits must be provided. Where there are more than
75 workers, 4 first aid kits must be provided. The contents required in a first
aid kit are listed in the table below.

A first aid room is required where there are more than 100 workers on a shift.

The
number of first aid responders required on a shift is determined by the number
of employees and the proximity to the nearest medical facility. See the table
below for the number and qualifications of first aid responders required.

The names of the first aid responders must be posted and a copy sent to the JHSC.

The employer must ensure that a seriously ill or injured worker is transported to a medical facility. The employer must provide the means of transportation or means of calling an ambulance. (First Aid Regulation 140/98, 6)
WORKERS COMPENSATION BOARD (WCB)
CLAIMS
A reportable injury is one that occurs in the course
of employment.
An injury must be reported to the board within 5 days of the employer becoming aware of the injury. The report must be in writing. (Workers Compensation Act 1987, 18)
A worker
must notify his or her employer as soon as practicable of an injury and no
later than 30 days after the accident. The worker must provide written details
of the injury to his or her employer. If the worker provides no information,
there can be no claim for compensation. (Workers Compensation Act 1987, 17)
If the worker is entitled to benefits, compensation from the WCB begins on the day following the accident. Wage loss benefits are not payable for three weeks after the accident if the accident was caused by serious or willful misconduct. (Workers Compensation Act 1987, 4)
