LOCKOUT
All dangerous machinery parts,
dangerous structures and places must be securely guarded. Post signs where
guarding is not practicable. (Workplace Safety Regulation 108/88R, 15)
The employer must ensure that when equipment is stopped for repair or maintenance, no work is done until controls are locked out or immobilized. The key must be in the control of the last worker or maintenance worker to leave the area. (Workplace Safety Regulation 108/88R, 9)
The employer must take effective steps to forbid cleaning or servicing while a machine in motion except where that is not possible.
Cleaning, servicing, and similar work on moving machinery is prohibited unless there is written authorization from the minister. (Workplace Safety Regulation 108/88R, 16)
Where cleaning or servicing when a machine is in motion cannot be avoided, the employer must establish a procedure to minimize danger to workers. (Workplace Safety Regulation 108/88R, 15)
A Hold Card System is permitted on application to the minister provided the employer undertakes to enforce the system strictly. (Workplace Safety Regulation 108/88R, 10)
