PROVISION OF PPE

The employer must provide sufficient PPE to prevent worker exposure to a health hazard. The employer must provide PPE to any worker who requests it, to any worker who may be exposed above occupational exposure limits, during an emergency when a worker may be exposed and when other control measures are impracticable. (Workplace Health Hazard Regulation 53/88, 31)

 

SELECTION

Before use, the employer must ensure that equipment fits the worker. (Workplace Health Hazard Regulation 53/88, 31)

 

TRAINING

The employer must inform workers prior to their first use of PPE of the health hazard for which the equipment is designed and its limitations, and instruct workers in effective wear, storage, and maintenance. (Workplace Health Hazard Regulation 53/88, 31)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Worker

The worker must wear all protective equipment required by his or her employer. (Workplace Safety and Health Act, 5)

 

BODY/SKIN PROTECTION

The employer must provide protective cream as necessary. (Workplace Health Hazard Regulation 53/88, 12)

 

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION

Where the concentration of gases or vapours causes danger to workers, the employer must provide respiratory protection. Workers must wear and use PPE provided. (Workplace Safety Regulation 108/88R, 11)

 

The employer must ensure that respirators are maintained in accordance with CSA A94.4-M1982 Selection, Care and Use of Respirators. (Workplace Health Hazard Regulation 53/88, 32)
