The employer shall ensure that the workplace is kept in a clean and sanitary condition, and in a good state of repair.
Materials, machines, or equipment must not be stored so as to create a hazard.
Containers used for garbage must be emptied frequently. (General Regulation 91-191, 15 – 17)
The employer must provide lighting sufficient for the work being done. Lighting provided shall be in conformance with ANSI/IES RP-7 1991 American National Standard Practice for Industrial Lighting. (General Regulation 91-191, 26)
The employer must provide an eating area if contamination of food in the work area is possible. The eating area must be separate from the work area, be kept in a sanitary condition, be provided with hand-washing facilities, tables and chairs sufficient for the number of workers, and garbage cans. The employer must ensure that food and drink is not taken into a work area where it may become contaminated. (General Regulation 91-191, 4.90 – 4.92)
