SELECTION

The employer must ensure that proper PPE is used based on the task being performed, the location and condition of the workplace, and any other hazards present. (Occupational Safety General Regulations 44/99, 9)

 

TRAINING

The employer must ensure that a worker is trained in the proper use and care of PPE that he or she is required to use. (Occupational Safety General Regulations 44/99, 9)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Employer

The employer must ensure that a worker wears PPE properly, the PPE is maintained properly, and that the PPE is inspected before each use. (Occupational Safety General Regulations 44/99, 9)

 

Worker

The worker must use PPE as instructed, inspect it before each use, not wear it when not required and where it would cause a hazard, report any malfunction to a supervisor, and clean and maintain as instructed. (Occupational Safety General Regulations 44/99, 8.9)

 

EYE PROTECTION

A worker must wear appropriate PPE where there is exposure to a hazard that may injure or irritate eyes, face, or neck. Eye protectors must comply with CAN/CSA-Z94.3-92 Industrial Eye and Face Protectors. (Occupational Safety General Regulations 44/99, 10)

 

SKIN PROTECTION

A worker must wear appropriate PPE where there is exposure to a hazard that may injure the skin. (Occupational Safety General Regulations 44/99, 12)

 

FOOT PROTECTION

A worker must wear appropriate PPE where there is exposure to a hazard that may injure the foot. Foot protectors must comply with CAN/CSA-Z195-M92 Protective Footwear. (Occupational Safety General Regulations 44/99, 12)

 

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION

A worker must wear appropriate PPE where there is exposure to a respiratory hazard that may cause injury or disease. (Occupational Safety General Regulations 44/99, 13)
