Asbestos is
considered to be a confirmed human carcinogen, meaning that it has the ability
to cause cancer in humans. Older buildings may contain asbestos. It was used in
light ballasts, insulation and in some floor tiles. If your facility contains
asbestos, you must comply with the regulations for asbestos.

Every employer must ensure that a worker’s exposure to asbestos does not exceed the time-weighted average exposure for any of the forms of airborne asbestos. The exposure should be reduced to the lowest practical level and shall not exceed 0.1 fibers per cubic centimeter of air. (Designated Substances Regulation 837/90, 4.(1))
