WORKERS
COMPENSATION BOARD (WCB) CLAIMS
The employer must notify a safety officer as soon as is reasonably practicable of a serious injury or a serious accident at the workplace. The scene of the accident must not be disturbed until authorized. (Occupational Health and Safety Act 1986, 33)
An
employer must provide the first aid supplies required based on the number of
employees in the workplace and summarized in the table below.

A dressing station must be provided in a workplace with 51 to 100 employees. A first aid room must be provided in a workplace with 100 or more employees. (Minimum First Aid Regulations, 12)
On each shift, for workplaces with more than 10 employees, the employer must designate an employee to administer first aid. The employee must have completed a first aid course to the emergency level if there are between 11 and 50 employees, or to the advanced level if there are more than 50 employees on the shift. The first aid responders’ certificate must be available at the worksite for inspection.
The employee must not do work that will prevent him or her from providing prompt first aid treatment. (Minimum First Aid Regulations, 15)
The employer must maintain at the worksite a written record of all injuries. (Minimum First Aid Regulations, 8)
WORKERS
COMPENSATION BOARD (WCB) CLAIMS
A reportable injury is one that occurs in the course
of employment.
The
employer must notify the board in writing within three days of a work-related
disability. (Workers Compensation Act 1992, 44)
The
worker must notify his or her employer of an accident within a reasonable time
after the occurrence. The notice must give the name and address of the worker,
and the cause of the injury. If notice is not given, compensation may be
forfeited. (Workers Compensation Act 1992, 8)
